Built and paid for by John Gladstone, father of William Ewart Gladstone, St Thomas' Church opened for worship on 6th August 1815. As far as can be ascertained, the building was white in colour for most of its life. It was painted blue in 1973, however, this was short-lived as in 1976 the church was closed and later demolished

How the 'footprint' of the building changed over the years

Over the decades the church was extended, as illustrated in the adjacent building 'footprints' taken from historical maps. The model here depicts the church as it would have appeared in the early-to-mid nineteenth century.

CAD model of the church

The model of St Thomas' church was constructed from mounting board, drafting film, 160 gsm card and 80 gsm paper. Assembly used hot-melt glue, PVA adhesive, spray-mount adhesive and clear multi-purpose glue.

Thanks to Margaret Brown for conducting the research that made this such an accurate model of St. Thomas'.
